My Story - Erick Otieno Ayanga, Teacher
It took me a long time to achieve my career dream after secondary school, due to the fact that my parents could not afford my college fees, since they were also educating other brothers and sisters of mine.
After my college in 2014, I joined two schools before joining Mwanzo Education Centre. Though I didn’t see this myself, the Mwanzo Director and school management saw leadership qualities in me, and appointed me to be the deputy head teacher (head of academics). Since I was appointed and up to now, I have installed and reorganized the smooth transitional running of academic excellence in Mwanzo – right from teacher, parents, and to the Mwanzo pupils. Information and communication channels from the ground up, that is from the pupils to the head office, are well-defined in Mwanzo Education Centre.
I also brought in leadership training and know-how to our young learners. If you come to Mwanzo School now, you will find that Mwanzo is the only private school in our zone with a student body president and student governors.
Mwanzo School has played a vital role to me since I joined in 2017 up to now. I now have my professional certificates, and have been able to clear my college fees. It has also allowed me to use some creative thinking to come up with my own income-generating activities. Since I was brought up with farming activities, the little am earning I can venture into maize farming, pay for my siblings’ schools, and improve the living standards of my family.
Mwanzo school is very far from our home, approximately 3 kilometres, and because I love my work, I wake up early at 5:30 AM to help me prepare before school for the betterment of Mwanzo school and also to prepare our learners for future generations.
